I absolutely loved stepping into the world of the people on Buffalo Road. Several years back I moved into that area, Brooktondale, and was completely disturbed by the sounds of shotguns. I had no clue that living out in the country would include those sounds. They brought me back to Brooklyn and my distaste for guns. Now I know people like the Shevaliers and I love being around them. I've never been closer to anything more real!
The video's message, that because some students read less than they use digital technologies we must focus our teaching on digital technologies, is disturbing to me. Reading is fundamental.
Another implication of the video is that students can only be, or best be, engaged using digital technologies. That they will create best digitally. They will learn best digitally. Is this true? I would like to see the research supporting this contention.
